Bakhter Development Network (BDN) was established and registered in 2001 with the Ministry of Economics in Afghanistan as an Afghan, non-political, non-profit, and non-governmental organization. BDN operates in line with its constitution in three sectors: education, health, and agriculture and livestock. Currently, BDN is involved in implementing different health projects across multiple provinces of Afghanistan, such as BPHS-EPHS projects in Balkh and vertical projects like CBNI, TSFP, PHNS, FSAC, GC7, S-WIFS, and RMNCAH/SRH and PSS services in provinces such as Balkh, Badakhshan, Baghlan, Faryab, Sar-e-Pol, Jawzjan, Samangan, Takhar, Kapisa, Ghazni, Kunduz, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Kabul, Parwan, Panjshir, and Maidan Wardak.

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide quality nursing service. The Nurse is also responsible for collaborating with different departments of the health facility to improve the quality and effectiveness of healthcare service delivery.

A male nurse is responsible for:

• Provide appropriate and quality nursing care to patients referred to the nursing room by the doctor.
• Maintain and regularly update the relevant registration books whenever patients receive services, ensuring that all services provided, as well as counseling and advice given, are completely and accurately documented in accordance with nursing procedures.
• Assist the doctor in the triage, categorization, and examination of patients.
• Collaborate with different departments of the health facility, including vaccination, maternal and child health, and other relevant units, to improve the quality of healthcare services.
• Actively participate in health education sessions for patients and other health facility clients.
• Prepare monthly reports covering all activities conducted in the dressing room.
• Ensure that all medical equipment, supplies, and instruments are properly maintained, stored, and used appropriately.
• Collaborate with members of the Community Health Shura (CHS) and Community Health Workers (CHWs) to strengthen community health activities and facilitate monthly meetings.
• Comply with infection prevention and control (IPC) standards, follow appropriate procedures for the disinfection of medical instruments, and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Prepare chlorine solutions at the required concentrations for use in all relevant departments of the health facility.
• Be responsible for the sterilization of medical instruments and equipment within the health facility.
• Identify suspected tuberculosis (TB) cases and refer them to the TB unit for further assessment and management.
• Support the nutrition counselor in screening and growth monitoring activities.
• When dispensing medicines, provide patients with adequate instructions regarding their proper use. Ensure that assigned medicines are stored appropriately and accurately recorded in the relevant forms and registers.
• Properly calculate and record the quantity of medicines consumed on a daily basis.
• Maintain adequate knowledge of the Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) for Afghanistan and apply its relevant standards and requirements in daily practice.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or authorized management of the organization.

• Graduate of a recognized nursing university/institute. Graduates of private universities or institutes must have graduated from an institution officially registered and recognized by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
• At least 2 years of proven experience as a nurse, preferably in rural or underserved areas.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in Dari and English; knowledge of other local languages is an advantage.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate information clearly and effectively.
• Demonstrate high ethical and professional standards, including patience, compassion, attentiveness, respect, and adherence to Islamic principles and values.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
