Job Descriptions:

The role of the Maternity Ward Cleaner is to support high-quality safe care to women and babies in order to clean the surface of the maternity ward, bed sheets, patients’ cloths and washrooms / toilets. The maternity ward Cleaner will work within direct supervision of nutrition nurse and medical team leader and receive guidance from them within the remit of their role. The Maternity ward Cleaner will provide information and advice to self-care, infant care, health promotion and housekeeping duties to ensure the smooth running of the Maternity ward team in the Hospital

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness within the Maternity ward.
  2. Sweeping and mopping of the patients’ rooms, corridors, and toilets of the ward by using of the proper antiseptics or detergents under the supervision of the nurse or Infection Prevention responsible (considering proper usage of the PPEs to ensure self-safety for the cleaner).
  3. Based on provided schedule the cleaner should keep cleaning of floors, equipment, beds, patients’ cloths, doors, windows, washrooms / toilets accordingly (the cleaner should use sweepers or scrubbers which can clean floors without leaving wet and hazardous surfaces).
  4. Collect and evacuate waste (waste management protocol should be applied) of the Maternity ward and carry to the designated sites and to ensure all the dustbins are available in each corner of the ward and to care of the clean environment. 
  5. Replacing of supply) it might be items of the patients’ rooms or bathrooms e.g towel, toilet paper, bed sheet and soap).
  6. Raise awareness of hygiene and keep sanitation measures among patients, visitors, staffs to use correct dustbins, water, hand washing points and latrines by the direct support of nurse in the ward.
  7. The cleaner should do the laundry activities for washing bed sheets, patients’ cloths and all necessary items based on given schedule.
  8. Crowed Control of patients in paediatric ward. 
  9. To ensure proper use of equipment, storage of the tools and cleaning materials.
  10. Helping with nutrition nurse regarding of milk or food preparation to the IPD patients in the ward.
  11. Supporting and helping in the organization of medical equipment with nurse and doctors if required
  12. Participating in relevant training when requested
  13. Willing to work on night shifts and holidays as required to cover the 24/7 shifts
  14. Report any abnormality to the supervisor.
  15. Any other assign tasks by supervisor.

 

Job Requirements:

Pashto and Dari skills are required; English is preferable.

Previous experience working for an international NGO is preferable.

Previous experience as cleaner in a inpatient department is preferable

Training on infection prevention control is preferable

Commitment to INTERSOS principles.
