Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Field Manager, the Poultry Project Officer/Trainer will be responsible for both managing the implementation of the poultry farming project and delivering high-quality training to beneficiaries. This dual role ensures that project activities are effectively coordinated while beneficiaries gain the technical knowledge and practical skills required to establish and sustain profitable home-based poultry enterprises.

The incumbent will oversee day-to-day project operations, including coordination at provincial and district levels, progress monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and technical support to beneficiaries. In addition, the incumbent will design and deliver comprehensive training sessions for project beneficiaries, equipping them with the competencies necessary to manage poultry farms that are both sustainable and income-generating.

The role requires close collaboration with local authorities, communities, partner organizations, and project stakeholders to ensure smooth execution, achievement of project objectives, and long-term impact for participating households.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Project Coordination & Communication:

  • Ensure a sound coordination and communication of the project with relevant sectoral ministries, government authorities, clusters, communities, and partners at both provincial and district levels.
  • Represent the organization in relevant cluster, provincial, and community meetings to share progress, align project activities, and strengthen linkages with stakeholders, including local veterinary service providers.
  • Ensure gender mainstreaming and child safeguarding principles are integrated and respected in all project activities.

 

Beneficiary Mobilization & Assessment:

  • Conduct and lead beneficiary assessment, verification, and selection, using the organization’s standard beneficiary data tools and forms.
  • Develop beneficiary lists.
  • Explain project objectives, scope, and action plan to targeted communities and beneficiaries.
  • Mobilize and organize beneficiaries into training batches in coordination with project staff and community councils.

 

Training & Capacity Building:

  • Develop easy-to-understand training manuals, materials, and visual aids in local languages.
  • Deliver comprehensive training to beneficiaries and project staff on poultry farming, including:
    • Poultry house (coop) design, construction, and placement in different climates.
    • Brooding management, chick placement, feeding, watering, and ration formulation.
    • Lighting, ventilation, and general farm management.
    • Biosecurity measures, dead bird disposal, cleaning, and disinfection.
    • Vaccination methods (water, intraocular, etc.), precautions, and prevention of vaccination failure.
    • Conducting postmortem demonstrations and identifying causes of poultry disease.
    • Factors influencing farm profitability (chick quality, feed, and management).
  • Facilitate both pre and post-training assessments to measure knowledge transfer and improvements.

 

Project Implementation & Monitoring:

  • Develop training material, conduct and facilitate training of beneficiaries, ensuring activities are implemented efficiently and according to plan.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project activities, poultry production practices, and progress at the beneficiary level.
  • Coach and support beneficiaries in applying best practices for improved poultry production.
  • Maintain accurate records of beneficiaries, training sessions, input delivery, and poultry production outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and ad hoc progress and training completion reports to the line manager and project management team.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Ensure women’s safe and active participation in all poultry-related activities.
  • Support participatory monitoring mechanisms in collaboration with MEAL staff.
  • Communicate challenges, risks, and lessons learned with management to improve project delivery.
  • Perform any other tasks as required to achieve project objectives.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Livestock/Animal Husbandry/Poultry or Veterinary Science;
  • Strong report-writing skills in both English and local languages and good computer skills;
  • Good presentation and training facilitation skills;
  • Capacity to effectively communicate and interact with project stakeholders;
  • Good analytical skills and ability to present coherent and convincing positions both in writing and orally;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the implementation of poultry farming projects;
  • Proven ability to effectively solve problems and respond quickly to changing environments;
  • Have a good knowledge of communities, districts, and villages of Takhar province would be an advantage;
  • Have good knowledge of local context, values, and traditions;
  • Has at least 3 years of relevant work experience in poultry projects;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

 LANGUAGES:  

  • Excellent Language proficiency in spoken and written Farsi-Dari, Pashto, and English.
