Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose

The Midwife works in the HSC to predominantly deliver RMNCH care services to women. She assumes responsibility and accountability for their practice, applying up to date knowledge and skills in caring for each woman and family. She will work as a member of HSC team that includes vaccinator, psychosocial counselor in outreach activities. And support where over utilize facilities as per RMNCH assistant or senior officer Health officer recommendation.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Give the necessary supervision, care, and advice to women during pregnancy, labor, and the post-partum period.
  2. Manage complication in pregnancy and childbirth, in accordance with the principles of basic emergency obstetric care.
  3. Provide primary care to women of reproductive age, in accordance with the BPHS.
  4. 1. MUAC screening of all pregnant and lactating women and referral of those with MUAC less than 23 cm to the nutrition team for treatment
  5. 2. IYCF counselling and education sessions for all pregnant and lactating women
  6. 3. Provide iron folic acid supplementation to all pregnant women Counsel and educate women, the family and community, in relevant areas of health including preparation for parenthood and childbirth.
  7. Obtain specialized assistance as necessary (consultation or referral).
  8. Share knowledge, skill and expertise with medical, midwifery and nursing students and resident staff, in management of pregnancy and childbirth, acting as a clinical preceptor.
  9. Perform limited, select administrative duties such as patient charting, recording, and reporting of data, clinic and/or facility management, or coordination of specific educational or outreach programs.
  10. Participate in research, professional organizations, and related committees and in continuing education opportunities.
  11. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives; continuous quality improvement initiative; safety, environmental, and infection prevention standards.
  12. Participate in the provision of 24-hour, six-day maternity service, which may require evening, night.
  13. Identify and report immediately any problem which interferes in the delivery of services or in achieving the program objectives to the team leader, and team leader to his/her immediate supervisor. 
  14. Participate in weekly meetings of health facility to share information and discuss the program progress.

As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.  Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.

Job Requirements:

Qualification

  • The candidate must be a midwife, graduated from a recognized midwifery institute. 
  • Familiarity with HMIS tools of MoH 
  • Good knowledge and experience midwifery activities
  • Excellent reputation/well-known Desirable.
  • Capacity to perform effectively under pressure and harsh conditions; ability to handle confidential and politically sensitive issues in a responsible and mature manner.
  • Excellent capacity development and teamwork skills; cross-cultural and gender sensitivity.
  • The candidate will be able to travel hard to reach districts of the target province.
  • The candidate will have good human and communication skills.

Desirable:

Good knowledge and experience of        

Health and nutrition training delivery.

Experience

  • The candidate should have 2 years’ experience in BPHS or similar health projects with international or national NGOs.
  • preference will be given to the locals of duty station.

Competency 

•     The candidate should fluently speak Dari, Pashto and English is an asset
