About AWEC:

AWEC is a non-political, non-profit, woman-headed national organization established in 1991 by a group of educated Afghan women in exile, who rallied together to address the lack of facilities for Afghan refugees in Islamabad and eventually Peshawar, in Pakistan. AWEC has always been involved in advocacy and awareness-raising for women and children’s rights while providing services to those who frequently fall through safety nets. In recent years, one of AWEC’s core activities has been to support women through mobilizing Afghans, from local communities to political elites, towards the goal of reducing and eventually eliminating violence against women.

Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose:

The M&E Assistant will be responsible for ensuring effective monitoring, for the project activities aimed at supporting vulnerable women and girls in Balkh and Parwan provinces. The role involves gathering data, conducting assessments, and providing insights that will help in the smooth implementation and success of the project. The M&E Assistant will ensure that feedback mechanisms are in place, and that learning from the project is effectively captured and utilized.

Key Responsibilities:

Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E):

  1. Conduct Needs Assessments:
    • Conduct women’s and girls’ needs assessments and community consultations in the targeted districts to gather data on their immediate needs.
    • Ensure assessments are done in a culturally appropriate manner that is respectful and inclusive.
  2. Data Collection & Analysis:
    • Collect qualitative and quantitative data from project activities, including monitoring visits, focus group discussions, and community dialogues.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of data related to health, psychosocial, and livelihood interventions.
    • Analyze data and provide input into reports that monitor the progress of project activities.
  3. Monitor Livelihood Activities:
    • Oversee the implementation of livelihood programs such as business start-up training, MSME development, and cash-based initiatives for vulnerable women.
    • Monitor the effectiveness of life skills and business training programs and ensure they meet project objectives.
    • Monitor the services provided at WGSS, including legal, health, and psychosocial support to the targeted beneficiaries.
  4. Post-Grant Monitoring:
    • Conduct post-grant evaluations and assess the sustainability of the MSMEs supported by the project.
    • Track the performance of women-led businesses and the impact of the micro-grants provided.

    • Ensure that dignity and hygiene kits are distributed to GBV survivors and track usage and feedback.
  5. Feedback and Complaint Mechanisms:
    • Establish, manage, and monitor a proper CFM mechanism across targeted areas of the project to gather community feedbacks.
    • Ensure that the feedback is documented, and necessary actions are taken in response to complaints.
  6. Learning & Reporting:
    • Capture lessons learned from the project and provide recommendations for improvement.
    • Contribute to monthly and quarterly project progress reports by providing M&E data.
    • Support the coordination of exhibitions and exposure visits to enhance the learning of MSMEs and beneficiaries.

Capacity Building:

  1. Capacity Building of Project Staff:
    • Support the implementation of training for project personnel and community committee members in M&E, business development.
    • Assist in the organization of training sessions on psychosocial first aid, case management, and other key areas and developing a comprehensive report.
  2. Support to AWEC M&E Department:
  • Provide insights to AWEC M&E department on the effectiveness of project interventions based on data and feedback.
  • Assist in enhancing the overall capacity of the organization to manage projects through feedback mechanisms.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the M&E Manager.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in statistics, social sciences, development studies, or related field.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in M&E, data collection, or similar roles, particularly in humanitarian assistance. Experience working with vulnerable women and girls is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of M&E methodologies, data collection, and analysis.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with community members.
    • Knowledge of local cultural sensitivities and ability to work in a gender-sensitive manner.
    • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and data analysis software.
    • Ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Languages: Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto, with a good command of English.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to project sites within Balkh and Parwan provinces.
  • Ability to work in challenging and remote environments.
