Background

Ansari Rehabilitation Association for Afghanistan (ARAA) is a national, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, established in 1992 for serving the people of Afghanistan through its operation in sectors of Health, Protection, agriculture/irrigation, water and sanitation, education, reintegration, social services, and construction, as well it has been established to provide humanitarian supports, based on the principles of human rights, Islamic and cultural values of our country, and environmental and socio-economic sustainability to the vulnerable people of Afghanistan.

In continuation of its 2025 program operational plan, ARAA is seeking for a qualified person to apply for this position.

Job Description/Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Country Programme Manager and Protection Officer, the Child Case worker shall:

• Conduct initial assessments to identify children at risk, including unaccompanied and separated children (UASC), children with disabilities, and survivors of abuse or exploitation.
• Develop and implement individual case management plans that prioritize the best interests of the child.
• Provide direct psychosocial support and counseling to children and their families, ensuring a trauma-informed approach.
• Monitor and follow up on cases to ensure the implementation of care plans and the well-being of children.
• Identify trends and protection concerns affecting children and report them to the Child Protection Officer.
• Maintain and update referral pathways for children requiring specialized services, such as legal aid and healthcare or etc.
• Work closely with community structures, schools, and local authorities to ensure a coordinated response to child protection cases.
• Conduct awareness-raising sessions with families, caregivers, and communities on child protection risks, child rights, and available services.
• Support Communities to identifying at-risk children and referring them to appropriate services.
• Support local stakeholders to strengthen child protection mechanisms within communities.
• Maintain accurate and confidential case files, ensuring compliance with data protection standards.
• Submit regular reports on case management activities, challenges, and achievements to the Child Protection Officer.
• Ensure all interventions align with UNHCR’s and international child protection standards, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
• Uphold a survivor-centered approach, promoting the safety, dignity, and best interests of children.

Job Requirements

• High School, bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in child protection case management in humanitarian or conflict settings.
• Experience working with vulnerable children, including UASC and child survivors of abuse or exploitation.
• Strong understanding of child protection principles, case management processes, and psychosocial support approaches.
• Knowledge of Afghan laws and frameworks related to child protection.
• Proficiency in using case management tools and systems, including assessment forms and tracking databases.
• Fluent in Dari and Pashto. Proficiency in English is highly desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a child-friendly and empathetic approach.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage complex cases.
• Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to work in diverse and challenging environments.
• Willingness to travel frequently within Herat, Farah, and Badghis provinces.
• Commitment to ARAA and UNHCR’s child protection policies, including safeguarding and confidentiality.
• Ability to handle emotionally challenging situations with professionalism and resilience.
