About ACDO:

Asia Community Development Organization (ACDO) is an Afghan non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit humanitarian organization established in 2014 and registered with the Government of Afghanistan under the supervision of Ministry of Economy (MoEc) with a mission to provide humanitarian and development assistance to the vulnerable, at-risk, and underserved people throughout the country.

ACDO responds to the needs of deprived and marginalized rural and urban communities by managing and utilizing the available scarce resources in a well-organized, efficient, effective, transparent, and dignified manner to enhance resilience, boost access to education, health services, and infrastructure, ensure food and livelihood security, and promote social protection and inclusion.

ACDO has an active presence in most parts of the country and intends to expand its operations to the remaining provinces, as to transform itself into a leading and developed organization that will deliver to and support large number of people who have been affected by the long-protracted and sudden on-set emergencies and regardless of the hardest circumstances that exist in Afghanistan, ACDO has managed to deliver humanitarian and development assistance in most part of country.

Job Descriptions:

The Education Specialist will play a pivotal role in advancing the educational objectives of Asia Community Development (ACDO). The primary focus will be to support the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of educational programs, ensuring they are effective, inclusive, and aligned with the organization's goals and standards.

Objectives

  • To improve the quality and accessibility of education programs particularly CBE and ALC program.
  • To Provide technical expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of education projects, ensuring alignment with donor requirements, organizational strategy, and national education policies.
  • To develop and implement innovative educational strategies and methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development and review of project strategies, detailed implementation plans, and monitoring frameworks for education projects to ensure relevance, quality, and sustainability.
  • To ensure educational programs are inclusive, equitable, and meet the needs of diverse learners.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Implementation:

  • Design and develop educational programs, curricula, and teaching materials.
  • Lead the implementation of education projects, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of activities.
  • Integrate innovative teaching methods and technologies into programs and provides direct technical support to field teams (project monitoring, field staff, and partner capacity building, training.
  • Review and contribute to the preparation of high-quality narrative reports, ensuring timely submission to donors, education clusters, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Works with education project teams and partners to identify technical strengths and weaknesses areas and develops plans to address gaps. 
  • Participate in relevant coordination meetings, such as the Education Cluster and Technical Working Groups, and represent the organization in education-related forums at national and sub-national levels.
  • Contribute to organizational learning through documentation of best practices, lessons learned, and success stories from education programs.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks for education programs.
  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to measure program effectiveness and impact.
  • Provide technical support during project evaluations and post-implementation reviews, including preparing evaluation summaries and recommendations for future programming.
  • Participate in field-based needs assessments, gap analyses, and risk and vulnerability assessments to identify education needs and inform proposal development
  • Provide recommendations for program improvements based on evaluation findings.
  • Update Data collection/ analyses, designing of quality, innovative and comprehensive program (concept notes, proposals).

Capacity Building:

    • Develop the required training material for the training
    • Review the existence training material for the capacity building of the project staff and teacher
    • Develop ToR of the education project review, evaluation, and research in coordination with relevant team’s members.
    • Organize and conduct training workshops for educators and program staff.
    • Provide ongoing technical support and mentorship to teaching staff.
    • Develop resource materials and training manuals.

Support to Senior Management:

    • Assist the Executive Team in developing project concept notes, proposals, and strategic and programmatic documents.
    • Provide specific technical support, analysis, and feedback to ACDO representatives in coordination forums.
    • Support the senior management team (SMT) in the overall implementation of project components and other assigned tasks.

Administrative and Logistical Support:

    • Assist in budget estimations and raising Purchase Requests (PRs) for project events.
    • Coordinate with support unit staff on recruitments, procurements, contracts, payments, and stock management.
    • Facilitate the handover process of CBE classes to hub schools, ensuring all required documents are provided.

Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Collaborate with government agencies, educational institutions, and other stakeholders.
    • Represent the organization in education-related forums and networks.
    • Foster partnerships to enhance program reach and impact.

Deliverables

  • Comprehensive education program plans and curricula.
  • Training materials and manuals.
  • Monitoring and evaluation reports.
  • Regular progress reports and documentation.
  • Recommendations for program improvements.

Reporting and Documentation:

    • Prepare regular reports on program activities, progress, and outcomes.
    • Preparation of high-quality narrative reports, ensuring timely submission to donors, education clusters, and relevant stakeholders.
    • Document best practices, lessons learned, and case studies.
    • Ensure accurate and timely data collection and reporting.

Any other task assigned by line management/SMT.

Job Requirements:

Essential:

  • Advanced degree in education, management, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in education program design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge of educational theories, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Proven experience in capacity building and training.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in [specific context, e.g., developing countries, conflict zones].
  • Familiarity with CBE & ALC educational program tools, technologies, or frameworks.
  • Proficiency in English.

Reporting Line

The education specialist will report directly to the provincial coordinator and work closely with other members of the education team and relevant stakeholders.

Skills:

  • Microsoft Office - Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for writing reports, analyzing data, creating presentations, email communications, etc.
  • Web Conferencing - Skills using Zoom, Teams, Google Meet for delivering remote trainings and virtual meetings.
  • Data Analysis - Familiarity with tools like SPSS, R, Python for analyzing student assessments, survey results, etc.
  • Google Workspace - Proficiency with G Suite apps for collaborative documents, sheets, emails.
  • Database Skills - Experience with database management platforms to organize educational content
  • Ability to cope well under pressure, work irregular hours and meet tight deadlines
  • Sound organizational skills and ability to prioritize and deliver assignments in a timely manner often under severe time pressures

Language skills:

  • Fluent oral and written skills in English;
  • Fluent in Pashto/Dari
