Asia Community Development Organization (ACDO) is an Afghan non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit humanitarian organization established in 2014 and registered with the Government of Afghanistan under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy (MoEc) with a mission to provide humanitarian and development assistance to the vulnerable, at-risk, and underserved people throughout the country.

ACDO has an active presence in most parts of the country and intends to expand its operations to the remaining provinces, as to transform itself into a leading and developed organization that will deliver to and support large number of people who have been affected by the long-protracted and sudden on-set emergencies and regardless of the hardest circumstances that exist in Afghanistan, ACDO has managed to deliver humanitarian and development assistance in most part of country.

Job Descriptions:

Individual and Group Counseling

  • Provide age-appropriate individual counseling sessions for children and caregivers experiencing psychological distress.
  • Facilitate group counseling and psychosocial support sessions based on identified needs, including peer support, parenting sessions, or psychoeducation.
  • Use culturally sensitive and evidence-based approaches to support mental and emotional well-being.

Case Support and Coordination

  • Work closely with case workers to assess psychosocial needs and support the development of case plans.
  • Provide technical guidance on psychosocial referrals and interventions for complex or high-risk cases.
  • Ensure timely referral of cases requiring specialized mental health services to appropriate providers.

Capacity Building and Training

  • Support the delivery of basic PSS training for frontline staff, including case workers, social workers, and community mobilizers.
  • Build the capacity of staff to identify signs of distress and provide basic emotional support within their roles.

Monitoring and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all counseling sessions and interventions.
  • Contribute to MHPSS activity reports, progress updates, and assessments as required by the project.
  • Monitor changes in the mental health needs of the community and provide input for program adaptation

Compliance and Ethical Practice

  • Adhere to professional standards, ethical guidelines, and organizational safeguarding policies at all times.
  • Ensure all interventions uphold the principles of “Do No Harm,” confidentiality, and informed consent.

Deliverables

  • Comprehensive physiological program plans and curricula.
  • Training materials and manuals.
  • Monitoring and evaluation reports.
  • Regular progress reports and documentation.
  • Recommendations for program improvements.

Reporting and Documentation:

    • Prepare regular reports on program activities, progress, and outcomes.
    • Preparation of high-quality narrative reports, ensuring timely submission to donors, relevant stakeholders.
    • Document best practices, lessons learned, and case studies.
    • Ensure accurate and timely data collection and reporting.

Job Requirements:

Essential:

  • Advanced degree in physiology, Social Science, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in protection program design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge of physiological counseling, Child Protection & Safeguarding.
  • Proven experience in capacity building and training.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in Case Management, Child Protection, Community engagement, and technical support.
  • Familiarity with Child Protection Principles, Standards, Case Management, Local Context, and Dynamics.
  • Proficiency in English.

Reporting Line

The Protection Officer will report directly to the Project Manager and work closely with other members of the provincial team and relevant stakeholders.

Skills:

  • Microsoft Office - Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for writing reports, analyzing data, creating presentations, email communications, etc.
  • Web Conferencing - Skills using Zoom, Teams, Google Meet for delivering remote training and virtual meetings.
  • Google Workspace - Proficiency with G Suite apps for collaborative documents, sheets, and emails.
  • Ability to cope well under pressure, work irregular hours, and meet tight deadlines
  • Sound organizational skills and ability to prioritize and deliver assignments in a timely manner, often under severe time pressures

  • Experience in capacity building and training of staff.

Language skills:

  • Fluent oral and written skills in English;
  • Fluent in Pashto/Dari
