In 1992 HealthNet TPO was established by ‘Doctors without Borders’ to bridge the gap between emergency aid and structural development. The organization is now the result of a merger between HealthNet International (HNI) and the Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO). HNI has knowledge and experience in reinforcing healthcare systems and prevention, diagnosis and treatment of transmissible diseases. TPO is an expert in the field of psychosocial and mental health care for survivors of war and natural disasters.  HealthNet TPO Afghanistan is managed by a team of qualified Afghans and supported by a team of experts at the HQ of the organization in Holland.

HealthNet TPO Afghanistan is providing Primary Health Care, Mental Health and psychosocial services, fighting malaria and supporting Mother & Child Health Care in terms of providing training for Community Midwifes and to conduct operation research. HealthNet TPO is currently implementing projects in almost 20 provinces of Afghanistan and the major program it implements are HER (Health Emergency Response) projects in three provinces, Nutrition, Mental Health and Psychosocial, Malaria Control program, Tuberculus....... through a community system strengthening approach.

HealthNet TPO has a zero tolerance toward sexual exploitation and abuse and child abuse. HNITPO takes seriously all concerns and complaints about sexual exploitation and abuse and child abuse involving HNITPO employees and Related Personnel.

Job Descriptions:

  • Provide comprehensive care to newborns in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
  • Assess, monitor, and document vital signs, feeding patterns, and other clinical observations
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement care plans
  • Educate and support families of neonatal patients on proper care techniques
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for neonatal patients and their families.
  • To implement new techniques based on evidence.
  • Performing physical assessments of newborns to identify abnormal biology, behaviors, and responses
  • Administering medications and treatments as prescribed by the pediatrician
  • Monitoring vital signs and initiating corrective action whenever the infant displays adverse symptomatology
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to plan, manage, and assess patient care
  • Providing education, support, and guidance to parents and families of neonates
  • Operating and maintaining equipment used for monitoring, resuscitation, stabilization, etc.
  • Assisting in the management of neonates recovering from surgery or complex medical procedures
  • Participating in research and contributing to the development of best practice guidelines
  • Documenting and maintaining accurate medical records of all patient interactions
  • Ensuring the neonatal unit or nursery is clean and hygienic, and adheres to infection control standards.

4. Coordination with HealthNet TPO

  • Comply with all HealthNet TPO policies, protocols, and operational procedures.
  • Attend relevant trainings, meetings, and capacity-building sessions organized by HealthNet TPO.
  • Maintain respectful, compassionate, and professional behaviour in all duties.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Hospital Director or HealthNet TPO management team.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience working in a NICU setting is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education
  • Registered nurse (Bachelor's degree in Nursing)
  • At least 2 years of experience in one of recognized Health facility
  • Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of neonatal pharmacology and evidence-based practice

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of IPC, waste management, HMIS, and BPHS/EPHS policies.
  • High level of integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct.
  • Fluency in local languages and working knowledge of English.

Working Hours and Conditions

  • Workdays: Saturday to Thursday
  • Working Hours: 08:00 AM – 03:30 PM
  • Flexibility to work beyond official hours in emergencies or as required by the program.
