AWEC has successfully implemented projects in Logar, Faryab, Kapisa, Khost, Panjshir, Wardak, Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Laghman, Nuristan, and Bamyan provinces, maintaining an active presence in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan, Paktia, Paktika, Laghman, Nuristan, and Bamyan.

Job Descriptions:

The purpose of the PSS Counselor role is to provide psychosocial support and counseling services to individuals, families, and groups affected by conflict, displacement, violence, or other forms of trauma. The counselor works to improve the mental health and well-being of beneficiaries through individual counseling, group sessions, awareness raising, and referrals to specialized services when required.

Responsibilities:

Provide individual and group counseling sessions to beneficiaries in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment.

Conduct psychological first aid (PFA) for individuals in distress.

Facilitate awareness-raising sessions on mental health, coping strategies, stress management, and resilience.

Identify and assess beneficiaries with severe mental health conditions and refer them to specialized services.

Develop and maintain case files ensuring confidentiality and data protection.

Support community-based psychosocial activities that promote healing, social cohesion, and positive coping mechanisms.

Collaborate with other protection, health, and social service providers to ensure an effective referral system.

Prepare and submit timely reports, case studies, and success stories as required by the supervisor.

Participate in regular team meetings, supervision, and capacity-building training.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience:

A Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling and/ or a related field.

A Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in counseling, PSS, or related mental health support roles. 

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of psychosocial support approaches, trauma counseling, and community-based protection.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with diverse communities, including women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

Understanding of confidentiality, ethics, and professional boundaries in counseling practice.

Fluent in Pashto and Dari; English is an asset.
