Organizational Background:

International Medical Corps is a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through healthcare training and relief and development programs.

IMC’s basic package of essential health care encompasses high impact primary health care services, Water Sanitation and Hygiene as well as key nutrition, food security and protection interventions. Through support of existing Ministry of Health (MoH) health facilities, training of medical staff, and operation of mobile medical units (MMU), IMC offers curative and preventive consultations, maternal and child health (MCH) care, maternal and newborn health (MNH) services including skilled birth attendance, healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies to reduce maternal and newborn mortality (HTSP), syndromic management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and services of the Minimum Initial Services Package (MISP) for Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) (ie. care for survivors of violence against women and girls, HIV prevention, hygienic delivery, emergency obstetric and neonatal care (EmONC)), therapeutic and supplementary nutrition services linked to comprehensive food security activities, violence against women and girls (VAWG) prevention and response, and mental health support. IMC also focuses on building the capacity of local community structures, such as village health committees (VHCs), community health workers (CHWs), and health centers management committees (COGEs). CHWs are trained and supported to conduct health education and hygiene promotion activities in their communities to encourage healthy practices and utilization of available health services, and the capability of VHCs and COGES to supervise and manage health facility operations for the benefit of in their communities is enhanced. The aim of IMC’s work is to strengthen local social services and develop capacity for greater community resilience, while maintaining flexibility and the ability to respond to the continuing instability and accompanying increasing humanitarian needs in the country.

Main Responsibilities:

1.     Job Description/ Scope of Work:

1.      The data collector will participate in an orientation session in the office.

2.      The data collector should visit the given sites of the given provinces of Paktika.

3.      The data collector will be responsible for data collection through interviews at HH level, interviews with Key Informants and FGDs Focus Group Discussion.

4.      The Data Collector will ensure taking accurate and clear notes from the KII and FGD sessions

5.      The Data Collector will provide daily updates to the MEAL Officer

6.      The Data Collector will report to the MEAL officer for data cross check and rectification.

7.      The Data Collector must ensure the quality of data at an optimal level.

8.      The Data Collector must maintain privacy and confidentiality of the beneficiaries.

Background:

According to the United Nations in Afghanistan (afghanistan.un.org), Afghanistan is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis with a very real risk of systemic collapse and human catastrophe. In 2024, a staggering 23.7 million people (two thirds of Afghanistan’s population) will need urgent humanitarian assistance in order to survive as the country enters its fourth consecutive year of drought-like conditions and the second year of crippling economic decline, while still reeling from the effects of 40 years of conflict and recurrent natural disasters. Also, the current inflation of refugees as per report from OCHA, 1.3 million Afghans have been affected. This returnee crisis has strained border points and posed additional demands on limited resources among host communities, necessitating increased humanitarian assistance. A surge in returns is expected to continue, with projections indicating over 1.46 million Afghans from Pakistan and Iran will return in 2024. (report)[1].

The key drivers of humanitarian need in 2024 are multidimensional: drought, climate change, protection threats, particularly for women and girls, and the economic crisis. The humanitarian conditions created by Afghanistan’s multidimensional crisis continue to impact all parts of the country and affect every aspect of Afghan life. In 2024, a total of 23.7 million people (two thirds of the population) need humanitarian assistance to survive.

The humanitarian response in 2024 will focus on providing life-saving assistance and protection to the most vulnerable people, while also supporting access to basic services and strengthening resilience(reliefweb.int). The United Nations and its partners have launched a US$3.06 billion appeal to assist 17.3 million people in need in 2024(un.ocha.org).

Qualification:

High school graduate. Bachelor’s degree will be given preference.

Experience:

·        Proven experience in qualitative/quantitative surveys within conducting Interviews, KIIs and Focus group discussions (FGDs).

Preference will be given to locals of duty station.

Competency:

·        Able to travel to remote areas.

·        Comfortable with the discussion about Health, Nutrition, and other relevant issues .

·        Fluent in Pashto and Dari, speaking English is preferred.

·             Familiar with Computer skill and using tablets for data entry.

Locals will be given priority.
