Job Descriptions:

Overview:

The Psychosocial Counseling Trainer will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs aimed at building the capacity of School Mental Health teachers in providing counseling services to the school students in Jalalabad. This role requires expertise in counseling theory and practice, as well as experience in training delivery and capacity building within the mental health sector.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To design and develop comprehensive training curricula for Teacher Guides and School teacher, tailored to the context of Afghanistan. Ensure alignment with national mental health policies and guidelines MoPH.
  • To act as a focal point in the target location and to provide support to the team in coordination with government entities, Public schools, reporting to Project manager.
  • Develop training materials, manuals, and resources to support the delivery of counseling training programs.
  • Facilitate training sessions for mental health professionals, counselors, social workers, and community health workers on various aspects of counseling, including assessment, intervention, and therapeutic techniques.
  • Utilize interactive teaching methods, role-plays, case studies, and experiential learning activities to enhance participant engagement and skill development.
  • Implement quality assurance mechanisms to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of counseling training programs.
  • Adapt training approaches and materials to be culturally appropriate and relevant to local communities.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness in all aspects of training delivery, considering the diverse cultural and social contexts within Afghanistan.
  • Any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

     

Job Requirements:

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in counseling practice and training delivery, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Strong understanding of counseling theories, modalities, and evidence-based practices.
  • Proven experience in curriculum development, training facilitation, and capacity building.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
  • Proficiency in English and Dari/Pashto languages (both written and spoken).
  • Commitment to human rights principles, ethical standards, and confidentiality in counseling practice.
  • Ability to travel to Kabul and Jalalabad as needed.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and active listening skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations.
  • Proficiency in using helpline technology and maintaining accurate records
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse populations
  • Knowledge of mental health issues, therapeutic techniques, and community resources
