About ADWSO:

Afghanistan Development and Welfare Services Organization (ADWSO), an Afghan Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has been operating in Afghanistan since December 2008.  ADWSO’s priority sector areas are Child Protection, Capacity Building, Rule of Law, and Women Empowerment.

Job Descriptions:

Community Engagement and Mobilization:

  • Engage with community members, leaders, and influencers to raise awareness on protection.
  • Mobilize men and boys to actively participate in community-based initiatives aimed at reducing harmful norms, and protecting vulnerable community.
  • Organize and facilitate community dialogues, group discussions, and awareness-raising events on issues related to child rights, protection, and community empowerment.
  • Collaborate with other community structures such as religious leaders, local councils, and schools to ensure broad community participation in protection programs.

2. Support for Child Protection:

  • Work closely with child protection teams to identify vulnerable children at risk of violence, exploitation, or neglect and refer them to appropriate services.
  • Facilitate information sharing and service referrals for men, boys, and families to address protection concerns, violation risks, and access to basic services.
  • Conduct home visits and meetings to provide direct support and guidance to families, ensuring children’s well-being and the safety of vulnerable community members in the community.

3. Awareness-Raising and Capacity Building:

  • Conduct awareness-raising sessions on topics such as child protection, Violation prevention, positive parenting and practices in schools, mosques, and public spaces.
  • Support community-led campaigns to change harmful practices such as child marriage, child labor, and violence and promoting behavior change practices with in the community.
  • Build the capacity of community members and leaders on key protection issues, ensuring they understand their role in preventing violence and protecting children.

4. Monitoring, Reporting, and Feedback Collection:

  • Monitor and document community reactions to protection and gender-based violence interventions, providing feedback to program teams to improve the quality and effectiveness of activities.
  • Collect and maintain data on the number of individuals reached through awareness-raising and community mobilization activities.
  • Provide regular reports on community mobilization activities, challenges faced, and recommendations for improved community engagement.
  • Establish mechanisms to gather community feedback and concerns about services provided by ADWSO and ensure these are addressed in a timely manner.

5. Coordination and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other field staff, such as social workers, coordinators, and child protection officers, to ensure coordinated and holistic service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local authorities, service providers, and community leaders to enhance collaboration and create a protective environment for children and other vulnerable community members.
  • Support community structures in identifying and responding to child protection cases, including family tracing, reunification, and psychosocial support.

6. Advocacy and Networking:

  • Advocate for the rights of children and women in community meetings, encouraging local authorities and community leaders to take action against harmful practices.
  • Establish and maintain networks with local organizations, schools, and health providers to create a comprehensive support system for vulnerable families

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, or a related field. A diploma with extensive experience in community mobilization can be considered.
  • Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in community mobilization, outreach, or social work in Afghanistan, with a focus on child protection or community development.
  • Experience in working directly with communities on behavior change, protection issues.
  • Proven ability to engage and mobilize community leaders, local authorities, and families on sensitive topics.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse community members, including men, boys, women, and children.
  • Ability to facilitate discussions and lead community-based activities in culturally appropriate ways.
  • Good report writing and data collection skills, with the ability to monitor and document community feedback and program outcomes.
  • Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto, with good spoken and written English skills.
  • Ability to work under challenging conditions, including in remote or insecure areas.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to project sites and conduct fieldwork in rural areas of Balkh, Badakhshan, Sar-e-Pul, and Takhar.
