Afghanistan Development and Welfare Services Organization (ADWSO), an Afghan Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has been operating in Afghanistan since December 2008.  ADWSO’s priority sector areas are Child Protection, Capacity Building, Rule of Law, and Women Empowerment.

Job Descriptions:

  • Lead the design and delivery of psychosocial interventions within ADWSO’s protection programs.
  • Provide direct psychosocial counseling to children and families affected by VAC, ensuring confidentiality and a trauma-informed approach.
  • Establish and maintain referral systems for children in need of additional protection services, such as medical care, legal assistance, or specialized psychological support.
  • Train project staff and community volunteers on child protection principles, psychosocial support, and effective case management.
  • Develop and facilitate training sessions for staff, community leaders, and local service providers on psychosocial support techniques and violation prevention.
  • Offer ongoing technical support and mentorship to program teams, ensuring the psychosocial well-being of children is a central focus of all interventions.
  • Collaborate with local health and social service providers to ensure a coordinated response to protectin and voilation concerns, establishing clear referral pathways for psychosocial services.
  • Work closely with community leaders, government agencies, and child protection actors to create a network of support for children at risk of violence.
  • Participate in relevant coordination meetings, working groups, and networks to advocate for the psychosocial needs of children affected by violence.
  • Track and document the progress of psychosocial interventions, gathering data on the outcomes.
  • Prepare regular reports on psychosocial support activities, highlighting key successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Lead community awareness initiatives aimed at preventing violence against children and promoting available psychosocial services.
  • Engage with parents, community leaders, and other stakeholders to foster a protective environment for children, and reduce stigma around reporting VAC.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience providing psychosocial support in child protection programs, with a focus on VAC prevention and response.
  • Strong experience in counseling, case management, and working with at-risk children in challenging environments.
  • Knowledge of referral systems, protection protocols, and best practices in psychosocial support for children.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Solid understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and psychosocial counseling techniques.
  • Strong communication, training, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive cases with empathy, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with data collection and case management tools is an asset.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to project sites in challenging environments as needed.
  • Commitment to child protection, and ADWSO’s mission.
  • Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto, with strong English language skills (written and spoken).
