Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is an international, non-profitable, non-governmental humanitarian relief organization with its head quarter in Birmingham, UK. It enjoys consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for International Red Cross and red Crescent Moments and NGOs in Disaster Relief. Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for more than 23 years, providing emergency relief and implementing life-changing development projects for some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Islamic Relief set up our first Afghanistan office in 1999. Since then, IRA continued providing assistances in emergency relief, food security, livelihood, education, health, nutrition, shelter, orphan sponsorship, Ramadan and Qurbani programmes.

Duties and Responsibilities

PERSON SPECIFICATION

It is essential that the post holder shows a good understanding and sympathy with Islamic values and principles as well as commitment to Islamic Relief Worldwide vision, mission and Protection as well as PSEA.

Essential:

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications (Bullet Points)

• Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized university.

• Valid license to practice medicine issued by the relevant national authority and successful completion of the National Exit Examination.

• Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience in primary healthcare, humanitarian, or development settings, preferably with an NGO.

• Sound knowledge of Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) policies, BPHS/EPHS guidelines, and national clinical protocols.

• Strong clinical skills in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of common communicable and non-communicable diseases.

• Experience in maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI), and emergency case management.

• Knowledge of the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), and nutrition screening and referral procedures.

• Good understanding of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), patient safety, and quality of care standards.

• Experience in disease surveillance, outbreak preparedness, and emergency health response is an advantage.

• Ability to interpret laboratory and diagnostic findings and make appropriate clinical decisions.

• Strong communication, counselling, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with patients and communities.

• Excellent clinical decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in challenging environments.

• Good report-writing, documentation, and record-keeping skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); familiarity with HMIS/DHIS2 is an advantage.

• Fluency in written and spoken Pashto, Dari, and English.

• Ability and willingness to travel frequently to field locations, including remote and underserved areas, as required.

• Commitment to humanitarian principles, medical ethics, safeguarding, confidentiality, and accountability to affected populations.
