Job Description

The Health and Nutrition Division aims to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable communities by providing accessible, high-quality, and integrated preventive and curative healthcare services. The division focuses on reducing morbidity and mortality through disease prevention, immunization, health promotion, and community-based interventions in line with Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) guidelines, national immunization policies, organizational standards, and humanitarian principles. Through effective vaccination services, community engagement, and health education, the division supports increased immunization coverage, prevention of vaccine-preventable diseases, and improved health outcomes among children, mothers, and other vulnerable populations.

The Vaccinator is responsible for providing safe, effective, and high-quality immunization services to children, pregnant women, and other eligible beneficiaries in accordance with Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) guidelines, the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) standards, organizational policies, and humanitarian principles. The position conducts routine immunization activities, ensures proper vaccine administration, maintains cold chain standards, provides health education and counselling to caregivers, and supports community mobilization to improve vaccination coverage.

The Vaccinator works closely with Medical Doctors, Nurses, Midwives, Community Health Workers, and other health staff to identify eligible beneficiaries, conduct vaccination sessions, manage immunization records, monitor vaccine stocks, and ensure accurate HMIS reporting. The role contributes to preventing vaccine-preventable diseases, strengthening community awareness, and improving maternal and child health outcomes through quality immunization services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and effective vaccination services to eligible children, pregnant women, and other target groups according to Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) guidelines, and organizational protocols.

  • Conduct routine immunization sessions at health facilities and during outreach/community vaccination activities.

  • Administer vaccines safely using proper techniques and maintain adherence to recommended vaccination schedules.

  • Screen beneficiaries for eligibility, assess vaccination history, and provide appropriate vaccines according to national immunization guidelines.

  • Maintain and monitor vaccine cold chain systems, including proper storage, temperature monitoring, and handling of vaccines and related supplies.

  • Complete and maintain accurate immunization registers, vaccination cards, tally sheets, and HMIS/DHIS2 reporting documents.

  • Monitor vaccine utilization, stock levels, wastage rates, and expiry dates, and report shortages or issues promptly.

  • Ensure proper management and disposal of injection safety materials and medical waste according to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards.

  • Provide health education and counselling to parents, caregivers, and community members on the importance of immunization, vaccine schedules, and prevention of vaccine-preventable diseases.

  • Identify and report adverse events following immunization (AEFI) according to national guidelines and organizational procedures.

  • Participate in community mobilization, outreach activities, and awareness campaigns to increase immunization coverage.

  • Coordinate with Community Health Workers (CHWs), Medical Doctors, Nurses, Midwives, and other health staff to identify missed children and improve vaccine uptake.

  • Support vaccination campaigns, emergency immunization activities, and outbreak response when required.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and child-friendly vaccination area while ensuring confidentiality and respectful treatment of beneficiaries.

  • Participate in supportive supervision, monitoring visits, data quality assessments, and immunization performance reviews.

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly vaccination reports and contribute to programme monitoring and donor reporting requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding principles, accountability to affected populations (AAP), and humanitarian standards during service delivery.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Health and Nutrition Officer, Health Facility In-Charge, or Project Manager relevant to the position.

  • Valid professional registration/license from the relevant health authority where applicable.
