About Water Aid for Afghanistan (WAFA):

The Water Aid for Afghanistan (WAFA) is a national non-profit, non-governmental, non-political, and humanitarian organization working in Afghanistan since 1994. The organization was initially registered as NGO with the Ministry of Planning and further registered in February 2006 with Ministry of Economy at NGO Department of the former Islamic Republic of Afghanistan under registration number 377.

The organization is professionally managed by a group of committed and young professional Afghans having multiple years of experience with governmental and non-governmental organization in Afghanistan and abroad.

Beside, WAFA works in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. WAFA also has close relation with the Ministry of Justice to empower and facilitate the street children in the light of the applicable laws and procedures. WAFA has extensive experience with IDP’s and returnees by providing them basic education, WASH facilities, hygiene education, Livelihood and health facilities with collaboration of Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation. 

The Organization has a regional coverage through undertaking various Educational (Community Based Education (CBE), Teacher Training, Formal and informal, accelerated learnings, Civic Education,  Awareness Raising (Legal Rights, Advocacy, Women Rights, Child Protection, Support to Electoral Process, Elimination of violation against women, Human Rights, Social Services programs, Water and agricultural programs, Universities Electricity Installation and upgradation, Projects in different sectors for Afghan Refugees/Returnees and local communities in Afghanistan

Job Descriptions:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Exercise financial and budgetary control over project funds according to the approved
    proposals and policies
  2. Logistic and Administrative support to project.
  3. Manage the finances of the country office according to WAFA guidelines and project budgets according to the funding guidelines/ donor regulations in collaboration with the Management Team
  4. Financial record keeping.
  5. Designing monthly budgets including fixed and variable expenses.
  6. Reviewing monthly expenses vs. budget and analyzing variances and monitoring and analyzing expenses according to the budget.
  7. Ensure daily data of financial transactions in QuickBooks and maintain financial records.
  8.  Review procurements and purchases process to ensure compliance with WAFA policies and donor regulations and compliances before payment to vendors.
  9. Allocating and transferring funds in a timely and accurate manner to the different projects.
  10. Preparing the expense predictions of the projects and making a work plan.
  11. Preparing and processing vouchers, reviewing bills and allocating them to their relevant grants.
  12. Preparing salary estimates of WAFA staff in accordance with budget allocation.
  13. To strictly exercise budgetary controls on project expenditure.
  14. Ensuring efficient utilization of financial resources.
  15.  Ensure appropriate and timely financial reporting.
  16. Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building of the finance department
  17.  Review monthly staff payroll and seek approval for payment of staff salaries
  18. Liaising with auditors, banks and suppliers to negotiate terms of payment.
  19. Reporting to the Finance Manager or his/her line supervisor.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and experience

  • BBA in financial management is highly required, but Master is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible work experience, including at least three years working in an NGO. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of QuickBooks software
  • Demonstrated experience in managing several projects.
  • Facilitation, consulting, and/or training experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with practical knowledge of the accounts
  • Proven ability to mentor and build skills of the department colleagues if required
  • Excellent communication skills: speaking, writing, and listening.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage deadlines effectively.
  • Good Financial Management English fluency ability.
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Full command over Microsoft Office package
  • Professionalism appearance
