Purpose of the Role:

The Asia Community Development Organization is seeking highly qualified and dedicated individuals to join its Board of Directors (voluntary position) for the term 2025-2027, he she will visit ACDO and participate in the BoD quarterly meetings. As a leading Afghan humanitarian organization, ACDO is committed to delivering impactful assistance and fostering sustainable development for vulnerable communities across Afghanistan.

Board members will provide strategic oversight, governance, and guidance to support ACDO’s mission, ensuring accountability, innovation, and resilience in its operations. Ideal candidates will possess expertise in governance, strategic planning, resource mobilization, or humanitarian and development work, with a strong commitment to promoting gender inclusivity and diversity. Job Descriptions:

Key Responsibilities

The Member of the Board of Directors will work for ACDO part-time and Voluntary and will be responsible for providing strategic oversight, governance, and support to ACDO’s executive management. Members ensure that the organization operates effectively, complies with applicable laws and regulations, and fulfills its mission to serve communities in need.

  • Strategic Support:
    • Provide high-level advice on programmatic, financial, and operational matters.
    • Advocate for policies and practices that align with ACDO’s mission and values.
    • Promote gender inclusivity, diversity, and sustainability across operations.
  • Governance and Oversight:
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of ACDO’s strategic plan.
    • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and fiduciary responsibilities.
    • Monitor organizational performance against objectives and strategic goals.
  • Resource Mobilization:
    • Assist in identifying and securing funding opportunities.
    • Build and maintain relationships with donors, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Risk Management:
    • Evaluate risks and ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
    • Provide guidance on crisis management and organizational resilience.
  • Ambassadorship:
    • Act as an advocate for ACDO in external forums.
    • Strengthen ACDO’s reputation by promoting its values and achievements.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree is an advantage.

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in governance, strategic planning, or organizational leadership.
  • Strong understanding of humanitarian and development principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with Afghan social, political, and economic contexts.
  • Proven track record in resource mobilization, financial oversight, or policy advocacy.
  • Commitment to ACDO’s mission, vision, and values.

Terms and Meetings

  • Tenure: Members serve a renewable term of (three years), as outlined in ACDO’s by-laws.
  • General Assembly: participate and contribute to the ACDO annual general assembly.
  • Meetings: Attend quarterly board meetings and any additional meetings as required.
  • Participation: Active participation is essential.
  • Reports to: Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
  • Works closely with: Board of Directors and Executive Director.

Conflict of Interest

Board members must disclose any conflicts of interest and abstain from decisions where such conflicts exist, in accordance with ACDO’s governance policies.

Remuneration

The position is (voluntary/unpaid) with reimbursement provided for pre-approved expenses related to board activities.
