About Concern Worldwide- Afghanistan:

Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Currently, Concern has been working in Afghanistan since 1998, when it responded to an earthquake disaster in Takhar province. Currently Concern has been working in Takhar and Badakhshan provinces undertaking both emergency response and long-term developmental work in the areas of livelihood security, primary education and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. 

Job Descriptions:

Main duty and Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engaging English lessons for Concern staff at different proficiency levels.
  • Conduct needs assessments to customize lessons for individuals and groups.
  • Teach general and workplace English, with a focus on communication, writing, and comprehension.
  • Facilitate both in-person and virtual classes using appropriate teaching tools and platforms.
  • Prepare lesson plans, learning materials, and assessments aligned with staff learning goals.
  • Track learner progress and provide regular feedback and reports.
  • Coordinating with HR and department leads to planning and adjust class schedules as needed.

Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS):

  • The concern is committed to CHS to ensure downward accountability. CHS standards guide Concern activities in all stages both emergency and development projects /programs. In Afghanistan, we also bounded our activities by Accountability framework and therefore any Afghanistan employees is responsible to comply with CHS principles and benchmarks as instructed by its policies and therefore make sure that all accept and implement CHS standards in all our activities.

 

  • To give full support in relation to emergencies/ humanitarian operations when occurring in any area that Concern Afghanistan will respond. This can include but is not limited to participation in the Concern Afghanistan Rapid Deployment Unit (CARDU) and deployment on emergency response teams.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certification or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience teaching English to adults, preferably in a professional or NGO setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using online teaching platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom).
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit diverse learning styles and levels.
  • Experience teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) or Business English.
  • Understanding NGO work culture and communication needs.
  • Multilingual abilities are an asset.
  • Flexible hours based on weekly needs.
  • Classes may be scheduled during working hours or early evenings.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; able to explain concepts clearly and adapt language to suit different proficiency levels.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable teaching in both in-person and online environments; flexible in adjusting lesson plans based on learner needs and feedback.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrates respect and understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds, especially in a multicultural workplace like Concern.
  • Organizational Skills: Able to manage multiple classes and schedules efficiently, with strong time management and planning abilities.
  • Initiative and Creativity: Proactive in developing engaging and interactive learning materials; uses innovative methods to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Patience and Empathy: Approaches teaching with patience and a supportive attitude, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
