Tdh has been working in Afghanistan since 1995 and carry out projects related to Child Protection, Mother and Child health and Livelihood Programs in Kabul, Balkh, Kunar and Nangarhar provinces.

Job Summary :

The Nurse is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients, including maternal, newborn, and child health services. The Nurse works under the supervision of the Medical Doctor and collaborates closely with other healthcare staff to ensure the provision of quality services in line with BPHS standards, clinical protocols, and infection prevention and control measures. The role also involves supporting nutrition services, patient education, and ensuring accurate documentation and reporting, while maintaining accountability and high standards of patient care.

Main responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care to patients at the BHC, including assessment of health status (vital signs, symptoms, and medical history), assisting in primary care consultations, and administering medications and treatments in accordance with physician/clinical protocols.

• Monitor patients’ progress, maintain accurate nursing records (assessment forms, vital signs charts, input/output logs), and communicate any changes to the supervising clinician.

• Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) practices, including sterilization, hygiene, and proper waste management within the facility.

• Participate in health education for patients and their families by explaining illnesses, treatments, follow-up care, self-care practices, and nutrition implications.

• Support outreach and community health activities as required, working closely with Community Health Workers (CHWs) and health posts to promote service utilization.

• Attend meetings (e.g., mortality and morbidity reviews, infection control committees) and contribute to improving quality of care and patient safety.

• Conduct screening of children under five years of age.

• Classify children as Normal, Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), or Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) according to standard guidelines.

• Refer SAM cases and complicated cases to the Medical Doctor for appropriate management and treatment.

• Administer Vitamin A supplementation if the child has not received it during the previous National Immunization Days (NID).

• Promote the consumption of iodized salt within the community.

• Support antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC), newborn care, and family planning services according to national guidelines.

• Monitor the growth and development of children and provide health and nutrition counseling to caregivers.

• Perform patient triage and provide first aid as required.

• Manage emergency conditions, including shock management, establishing IV access, and controlling bleeding.

• Provide wound care and dressing.

• Identify fractures, including neck and spinal injuries, and ensure proper stabilization and immobilization.

• Cooperate with the Medical Doctor in the distribution of medications to patients.

• Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports in a timely manner.

• Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education :

• Degree/Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institute and passed exit exam of MoPH
  

Experience / Skills :

• Minimum three (3) years of relevant nursing experience in BPHS, EPHS, NGOs, INGOs, or government health facilities, preferably in remote or underserved areas.

• Preference will be given to local candidates who meet the required criteria and successfully complete the full recruitment process; however, being a local candidate alone does not provide any advantage.

• Able to plan, deliver, and evaluate nursing care

• Clinical competence - safe medication administration and procedures

• Assessment skills - monitor and assess patient conditions

• Ability to follow standards and maintain confidentiality

• Good communication skills - effective interaction with patients and the team

• Infection prevention and control - ensure safety and hygiene

• Documentation & reporting - maintain accurate patient records

• Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  

Languages:

Written and verbal Fluency in local languages

IT knowledge :

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
