Job Description

Main duties and responsibilities:

The Senior Program Officer – Public Nutrition supports the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of nutrition projects in coordination with the Nutrition Program Manager. The role provides technical assistance for project development, field supervision, staff capacity building, and compliance with donor and nutrition standards. It also coordinates with stakeholders, analyzes project performance, and ensures effective utilization of resources and timely delivery of nutrition interventions across target provinces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of nutrition projects in close coordination with Nutrition Program Manager
  • Provide technical support to Nutrition Program Manager in the development of work plans, budgets, proposals, and concept notes for nutrition projects
  • Coordinate and monitor implementation of nutrition activities in BPHS and other vertical projects across target provinces
  • Ensure activities are implemented according to approved proposals, donor requirements, and nutrition standards
  • Coordinate with doner, partners, clusters, and other stakeholders on nutrition-related activities
  • Represent OPHCD in meetings, workshops, and nutrition cluster when required
  • Follow up on daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual progress of nutrition activities
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of nutrition projects reports
  • Compile, analyze, and document project achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and success stories
  • Conduct regular field visit and provide technical support to nutrition staff, health workers, and community-based personnel
  • Support training, mentoring, and supportive supervision activities for field teams and health facility staff
  • Assist in the development of training materials, IEC materials, and technical tools.
  • Support procurement and distribution follow-up for nutrition supplies and materials
  • Ensure proper utilization of project resources in line with organizational policies
  • Perform any other duties assigned by Nutrition Program Manager or line supervisor

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience

A.      Required qualification:

·       MD Degree or Bachelor Degree in Public Health/ Master Degree in Public Nutrition or Public Health is preferrable

·       5- 10 years of relevant experience in Health sector of Afghanistan

·       3-5 years of relevant experience in Public Nutrition Project implementation in Afghanistan

B.      Prefer qualification

·       Strong skills in MS Excel and data analysis tools are preferable

·       Experience with multi-province projects and donor-funded programs in Afghanistan preferred.

·       Fluency in English; proficiency in Dari and Pashto required.
