Job Descriptions:

The Deputy Executive Director (Female) will support the Executive Director in providing strategic leadership and operational management across the organization. The Deputy will provide high-quality grant proposals to secure funding from donors, foundations, and other sources, oversee the implementation of the organization's strategic plan, ensuring that programs, operations, and resources are aligned to achieve the organization's mission. The role involves supervising key departments, driving organizational growth, ensuring compliance, and representing the organization at the highest levels.

  1. Strategic Leadership
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and senior management team to develop, implement, and monitor the organization’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the mission and responsiveness to evolving needs.
  • Lead organizational development initiatives, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and accountability across all departments.
  • Oversee the development, review, and implementation of organizational policies and procedures, ensuring they are up-to-date and aligned with best practices and legal requirements.
  1. Program Oversight
  • Provide strategic oversight and support to program team to ensure effective planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of all programs.
  • Ensure that programs meet quality standards, donor requirements, and achieve desired outcomes. Promote the integration of cross-cutting issues such as gender, inclusion, and sustainability into all program designs.
  • Drive program innovation and the expansion of the organization's portfolio by identifying new opportunities, partnerships, and funding sources.
  1. Operational Management
  • Oversee the operations departments (Admin, HR, Finance and Logistics), ensuring that all organizational processes are efficient, effective, and aligned with strategic goals. Support the HR team in recruiting, developing, and retaining high-quality staff. Ensure that staff performance management systems are effective and that staff are supported to achieve their full potential.
  • Lead risk management efforts across the organization, identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies to ensure operational continuity and resilience.
  1. Grant Management
  • Lead and support the development of high-quality grant proposals to secure funding from donors, foundations, and other sources.
  • Monitor grant-funded programs to ensure that they are implemented in accordance with grant agreements, including timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, ensuring regular communication, transparency, and accountability in all grant-related matters.
  1. External Relations and Advocacy
  • Represent the organization at high-level meetings, conferences, and forums, both nationally and internationally. Serve as a spokesperson for the organization when required.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, the private sector, and donors.
  • Lead advocacy efforts on key issues related to the organization’s mission, ensuring that the organization’s voice is influential in relevant policy discussions.
  1. Governance and Compliance
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to engage the Board of Directors, providing them with the necessary information and support to fulfill their governance responsibilities.
  • Ensure that the organization complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, including those related to labor laws, donor agreements, and sector standards.
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of the organization’s work.
  1. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the organization’s MEAL framework, ensuring that data is used effectively to inform decision-making and program improvement.
  • Ensure that the organization’s programs are delivering measurable impact and that results are communicated effectively to stakeholders.
  • Promote a culture of learning within the organization, ensuring that lessons learned from program implementation are systematically captured and applied to future work.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree is an advantage.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior management role within an NGO, international development, or humanitarian organization.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, program management, financial oversight, and resource mobilization.
  • Extensive experience in grant management, including proposal writing, donor relations, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated success in leading organizational change, driving innovation, and managing complex multi-sectoral programs.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to think strategically and translate strategy into actionable plans.
  • Strong understanding of financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance.
