SCOPE OF WORK

The Nutrition Advisor, reporting to the Medical Coordinator, is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effective implementation of all nutrition activities, including MUAC rollout, supply nutrition procurement, IMAM, and MIYCN interventions, in line with MoPH and nutrition cluster guidelines. The role involves providing technical and field data support for proposal development, preparing and consolidating reports for MDM and donors, coordinating nutrition related procurement processes to ensure timely delivery of supplies, monitoring progress against key nutrition indicators, and developing nutrition tools in collaboration with the project management team. Additionally, the Nutrition Advisor reviews provincial reports, ensures accurate and timely data entry, incorporates feedback for continuous nutrition program improvement, and liaises with relevant support departments to facilitate efficient nutrition activities execution.

Job Purpose

  • To oversee the implementation and monitoring of nutrition activities to ensure alignment with guidelines and standards
  • To support nutrition activities in proposal development, reporting, and data management to demonstrate nutrition program impact and secure funding
  • To coordinate nutrition procurement, track indicators, and develop nutrition services related tools to ensure timely and effective service delivery
  • To facilitate nutrition data collection with HMIS/MEAL Advisor, feedback integration, and interdepartmental collaboration to enhance nutrition program efficiency and learning

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Implementation and Oversight

  • Oversee the implementation of all nutrition activities, including the rollout of the family MUAC approach, supply requests for nutrition supplies, IMAM activities, and strengthening MIYCN interventions.
  • Ensure all activities align with Nutrition cluster recommendations and MoPH national guidelines.
  • Conduct regular supportive supervisions from the field sites and health facilities to ensure quality of nutrition services
  • Implement nutrition standards with support from provincial nutrition officers to improve the quality of nutrition services
  • Provide nutrition related capacity building training and on-the-job training to the front-line healthcare providers

Technical Support and Reporting

  • Provide technical nutrition inputs and field data to support proposal development and feasibility assessments.
  • Develop and compile reports for MDM and donors in collaboration with Nutrition Officers and relevant departments.
  • Collect, review, and provide feedback on provincial reports related to TFUs, OPD SAM, MAM, and MIYCN activities, ensuring timely data submission and entry into online databases.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Data Management

  • Monitor progress against key nutrition indicators monthly by reviewing reported achievements from provincial teams.
  • Develop and maintain work-plan and trend analyses to support implementation and review.
  • Regularly follow up with officers on nutrition data submission, accuracy, and online data entry.

Coordination, Procurement, and Support

  • Identify procurement needs in collaboration with officers and facilitate timely nutrition procurement requests, coordinating with logistics for delivery.
  • Liaise with support departments (finance, procurement, logistics, HR, HMIS) to ensure efficient implementation of nutrition activities.

Budget Management and Learning

  • Work with the Medical Coordinator to ensure nutrition budgets are efficiently used by reviewing monthly expenditures against objectives and timelines.
  • Work with the Medical Coordinator to ensure nutrition activities incorporate feedback mechanisms, lessons learned, and continuous refinement.

SAFEGUARDING POLICY FOR STAFF:

  • Respect and follow Mdm Safeguarding policy and never neglect, abuse, harm, or exploit children, young people, and adults at risk,
  • Report any actual or suspected harm to the children and vulnerable adults caused by staff and the program.

Job Requirements:

             Qualification:

  • Medical Doctor or bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health, a master’s degree in public health or nutrition will be preferable

Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in nutrition project design and implementation working in an INGO or NGO in Afghanistan.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in nutrition related humanitarian programming in a senior or program management position.
